Our commitment

Sodality is built to be usable by people with disabilities, including people who use keyboards, screen readers, magnification, high contrast, and reduced motion. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA on this instance.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and similar laws apply to many public-facing websites. This page describes what we do in the product so people can use Sodality independently. It is not a certification, a warranty, or legal advice.

What you can do here

Skip to main content. A skip link is the first focusable control on every page.

Keyboard. Buttons, links, forms, menus, and dialogs work without a mouse. Focus is visible. Dialogs trap focus until you close them (Escape or Close). Menus can be opened and closed from the keyboard.

Screen readers. Pages have a language and text direction, landmarks (banner, navigation, main, complementary), headings, labels on form fields, and names on icon-only controls. Errors and toasts are announced. Images include alternative text.

Vision. Text and controls are sized to stay readable when you zoom. Color is not the only way we show meaning (selected reach, reactions, and badges also use text or names). We respect prefers-reduced-motion and forced-colors where the browser supports them.

Language. We detect your browser language automatically until you pick one on your profile. Use “Use my browser language” to follow the browser again. Switching language reloads the page.

Touch. Primary controls are large enough to tap. Sign-in supports a magic link so you are not forced to memorize a password (WCAG 2.2 accessible authentication).

Captions. This instance does not host video or audio players. If we add them later, we will provide captions and transcripts.

Known limits

Some user-uploaded photos may have weak alternative text if the uploader did not name the file. Circle names, posts, and chat are written by members; we cannot guarantee that member content is accessible.

Find my location uses the browser geolocation prompt, which is controlled by the operating system, not by Sodality.

Third-party mail, object storage, or an AI provider the operator turns on may have their own accessibility limits.

How to report a barrier

If something on this instance is hard to use with assistive technology, tell the instance operator (the person who runs this server) or use Report on a person, post, or circle when the problem is content. Include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you use.

We will work to fix product barriers. Content posted by members is the responsibility of those members and of moderators who review reports.
